YESTERDAY I talked about what in my opinion is really stopping young artists from being proactive about learning the business besides just being a musician. But today I want to highlight another important point, which is that discouraging young artists to NOT TAKE ANY DEAL WITH A MAJOR is also not the simple answer. Some deals can be very good, and very beneficial, it all depends on what the final contract says. @bounceenergydrink made a very good point yesterday with his comment comparing discouraging young kids to take major deals with pro sport teams. Some athletes that don't have the drive to learn and get smarter when they enter the league will end up making poor financial decision, potentially even being broke after they get done playing. Some will become even richer than what sports could have paid them because they leverage that platform and opportunity to multiply their wealth. Artists have the same option. It's all about their state of mind and willingness to learn. So instead of discouraging Artists to not take a deal with a major, let's encourage them to learn the right information so they can make the best decision to fit their situation.
